Shamash Alidina

Network of Wellbeing Ambassador

An Award-Winning Community Builder, Mindfulness Teacher and Author

Shamash Alidina came to mindfulness not as a spiritual seeker, but as a stressed engineering student at Imperial College London in 1998. He found a meditation class at an evening philosophy group, and it changed the direction of his life.

He spent the next ten years as a science teacher in London secondary schools, where he also ran daily meditation and weekly philosophy classes for his students, long before mindfulness was mainstream.

Shamash became a Wellbeing Ambassador for us in September 2026.

More About Shamash’s Wellbeing Work

In 2009 Shamash got a contract from the publisher Wiley to write a book on mindfulness. A year later, Mindfulness For Dummies became an international bestseller; it is now in its third edition and has been translated into over a dozen languages. He has since written ten books, including The Mindful Way Through Stress and Breathing Exercises For Dummies.

Shamash trained at Bangor University’s Centre for Mindfulness and with Jon Kabat-Zinn in Massachusetts, and has attended retreats with Thich Nhat Hanh, Ajahn Brahm, Matthieu Ricard and The Dalai Lama. In 2013 he launched Teach Mindfulness Online, one of the first fully online mindfulness teacher training programmes, and nearly 500 teachers have trained through it.

In 2020 he started the Daily Mindfulness Club. What began as a 30-day challenge is now a friendly community that meets live online every weekday morning to practise together. His guided meditations and approach draw on MBSR, MBCT, Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) and breathwork, grounded in his respect for evidence as a lover of science. He doesn’t believe mindfulness is about reaching a perfect state of stillness. It’s about learning to be here, as you are, with a little more kindness. He also has a lifelong love of Advaita and nondual philosophy: the sense that we’re less separate than we think, like waves on one ocean. If that’s true, kindness to others is kindness to ourselves.

His work has been featured in The Guardian, the BBC, Time Out and Sky TV. In September 2026, Shamash became a Wellbeing Ambassador for the Network of Wellbeing.
