In a series of three online events the Network of Wellbeing (NOW) and Eden Project Communities worked in partnership to highlight important aspects of wellbeing at the community level. This post shares a summary and all event recordings.

Events in the series featured an inspiring range of speakers and covered topics including addressing loneliness, building resilience and connecting with nature. Check out recordings from the series below, and you can also watch a short wrap-up event, in which we share learning from this series

Kinder Relationships: Addressing Loneliness, Building Community

Many people who were already isolated or in challenging situations have struggled to cope during our current context. However, at the same time there are lots of reasons for hope. Community groups have jumped in to support those in need across the UK.

At this event we explored how we can address loneliness and create kinder communities for all, hearing from guests Iona Lawrence (Founder of the Jo Cox Foundation) and Tracey Robbins (Eden Project Communities). This event was also a part of the Leeds Festival of Kindness, Compassion and Wellbeing.

Resilient Communities: Caring for Ourselves, Caring for Each Other

In order to effectively care for each other, we need to care for ourselves.  And in order to effectively care for ourselves, we also need to care for each other. This interdependence of care is essential for creating resilient communities.

By resilience we mean the ability to bounce back from challenges, and this is important on both personal and collective levels. At this event we heard from Chris Johnstone (College of Wellbeing), Amria Khatun and Peter Lefort on tools and approaches that can help us support resilience in ourselves and in our communities.

How Does Nature Connection Support Community Wellbeing?

We all know that getting outside is good for us, but how can nature connection support our wider community wellbeing? And how can we make sure that different groups have access to natural spaces, and all of the resulting benefits?

At this event we heard different perspectives on access to nature from Juliet Rose (Eden Project), Maxwell Ayamba (Sheffield Environmental Movement) and Craig Bennett (Wildlife Trusts).
