Over 700 people gathered in Buckfastleigh in Devon, this week, for a celebration of wool, creativity and community – the WoolFest. Hosted by the Share Shed – A Library of Things and the much-loved Woolly Nanas, and supported by the Buckfastleigh Town Council, this year’s WoolFest was one to remember.

From the moment the sheep procession made its way through Buckfastleigh – to the delight of onlookers! – to the final notes of live music as the Festival came to a close, WoolFest was buzzing with warmth and creativity.

A Celebration of Craft and Community

Visitors of all ages joined in a variety of wool-themed activities, including spinning, weaving, felting, knitting and more. There were hands-on workshops, demonstrations, talks about wool as a sustainable material, and even a chance to watch sheep-shearing up close. It was educational and heartwarming, showcasing the beauty and importance of wool in our local heritage.

The Wool Hub, a community space developed by the Woolly Nanas in the heart of Buckfastleigh, also welcomed visitors, highlighting how creativity and community care can weave together beautifully.

Building a Culture of Sharing

The Share Shed team was thrilled to share information about our mobile library of things, helping people borrow useful items rather than buying them. This ethos of sharing and sustainability was echoed throughout the event, reflecting the values we hold dear at the Network of Wellbeing—supporting practical solutions that also strengthen social bonds.
