For decades, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been treated as the gold standard for measuring national progress. Yet GDP alone cannot capture the wellbeing of people, the health of our planet or the shared prosperity that sustainable development demands. A more meaningful approach is needed – one that reflects what truly matters in our lives and communities.

The UN High-Level Expert Group on Beyond GDP has now reached an important milestone, publishing its interim report and launching an open online consultation to gather public insight. This is a rare opportunity for people across the world to help shape a new global framework for measuring progress.

The consultation is open to everyone: citizens, community groups, charities, NGOs, researchers, entrepreneurs and policymakers. No technical expertise is required – just a willingness to reflect on what progress means to you and what you believe should be valued in our collective future.

The survey explores two key themes:

  • What progress looks like for individuals, communities, and countries.

  • Feedback on the Expert Group’s interim report, to ensure the final recommendations are grounded in lived experience.

Your voice genuinely matters. Responses will help guide the Group’s final report, which will be presented to the UN General Assembly in 2026.

The survey is open from 5th to 30th November 2025, takes around 10-15 minutes, and is available in multiple languages.

If you would like to take part in shaping a fairer, more sustainable vision of global progress, you can begin the survey here:
